
Summary:
The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the entire fleet of vehicles for Fairlead, including the supervision of drivers and transportation shop employees. This role ensures that all transportation operations are executed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with company policies and government regulations. The Transportation Supervisor also plays a key role in cost control, scheduling, and maintenance planning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Supervise and coordinate all transportation personnel, including drivers, mechanics, and other transportation shop employees.
• Manage daily fleet operations, ensuring timely vehicle dispatch, route planning, and adherence to schedules.
• Ensure all vehicles are properly maintained, inspected, and meet DOT and company compliance standards.
• Monitor driver performance, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, proper documentation, and adherence to company policies.
• Conduct regular safety meetings and training for transportation personnel.
• Develop and enforce policies regarding vehicle operation, fuel usage, and maintenance scheduling.
• Oversee transportation shop operations, ensuring vehicles are repaired and maintained efficiently.
• Maintain accurate records of vehicle inspections, fuel usage, maintenance schedules, and trip logs.
• Work closely with other departments to coordinate transportation needs and logistics.
• Ensure compliance with all OSHA, DOT, and Fairlead safety standards.
• Address employee concerns, provide coaching and discipline as needed, and conduct performance evaluations.
• Assist in budgeting and controlling transportation costs.
• Evaluate fleet performance and recommend improvements for efficiency and cost reduction.
Qualifications:
Required –
• Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in transportation, fleet management, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, fleet maintenance practices, and safety procedures.
• Experience in scheduling, dispatching, and managing logistics operations.
• Ability to manage personnel, resolve conflicts, and provide leadership in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in tracking fleet maintenance, fuel costs, and vehicle inspections.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Basic mechanical knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair processes.
• Ability to use fleet management software and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred –
• Experience in a shipyard, defense, or industrial transportation environment.
• CDL license or knowledge of commercial vehicle regulations.
• Experience implementing cost-saving measures in fleet management.
Minimum Requirements:
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Reliable transportation and strong attendance record.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and on-call shifts as needed.
Physical Demands:
• While performing these job duties, employees are routinely required to stand, walk, lift, climb, crawl, and sit. To use their hands and fingers to reach, handle, and feel objects, tools, or controls and to type or write. Employees are also required to be able to see, talk, hear, and smell. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various weather conditions.
Work Environment:
• This position is performed in a traditional shipyard environment with frequent local travel between facilities and project locations as required. Expect to spend portions of each day in the yard and/or at various locations. Occasional travel outside of the local area may be required in support of customers, vendors, suppliers, and other team members.
