Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts daily, periodic, and monthly inspections of vessels, buildings, and facility to collaboratively promote best practices, encourage safe behaviors, identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Complete constructive daily EHS reports that identify discrepancies, highlight areas for improvement, and recognize positive safety efforts, delivering results via email along with recommended corrective actions to mitigate and resolve any issues.
  • Inspect work areas for fire hazards, confined space entry compliance, hot work permits, electrical safety, fall protection, and proper use of PPE.
  • Performs administrative tasks and supports record-keeping functions that contribute to a responsive and well-organized safety program.
  • Reinforces company safety policies through coaching and support, aligned with our safety manual and regulatory standards.
  • Observes trades personnel at work, offering guidance and real-time solutions to promote compliance and enhance worker protection.
  • Supports the workforce by ensuring the appropriate selection and use of personal protective equipment—ensuring trades are equipped, protected, and confident in their tools.
  • Inspects equipment, tools, and workspaces; works collaboratively to address deficiencies and remove unsafe items, when necessary, while ensuring continuity of operations.
  • Be informed of current legislation and evolving safety standards to ensure compliance and being well-prepared.
  • Provides onboarding and ongoing safety training, promoting continuous learning and awareness among employees and leadership.
  • Instructs workers in the proper use of safety gear and safe work techniques in a supportive and educational manner.
  • Listens and responds thoughtfully to instructions, concerns, and safety-related inquiries from teams and leadership alike.
  • Wears required PPE consistently, setting an example of commitment to personnel.
  • Maintains a professional, calm, and encouraging presence that supports a positive work environment and promotes safe behavior.
  • Works independently while maintaining strong connections and communication with team members across departments.
  • Maintains dependable and regular attendance to be a reliable presence and within the team.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed to support ongoing operations and emergent safety needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of team and organizational goals.

Qualifications

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and at least three (3) years of experience in Safety (Construction, Gen Industry or Maritime).
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of federal safety regulations and job safety analysis.
  • Must have experience with behavior-based safety and positive safety reinforcement strategies.
  • Must have experience in maritime operations.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly explain safety information and partner effectively with various departments.
  • Must have people skills that foster collaboration, respect, and team building across all levels of the workforce.
  • Must be familiar with maritime safety regulations including NAVSEA Standard Items, OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, ANSI, EPA, and local/state rules.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license with a driving record that permits operation of company vehicles.
  • Must be able to obtain a DBIDS and TWIC card to access government facilities.

  • OSHA 30-Hour (Shipyard Employment or General Industry) certification
  • OSHA 521 (OSHA Guide to Industrial Hygiene)
  • OSHA 3095 (Electrical Standards)
  • OSHA 3115 (Fall Protection)
  • OSHA 5410 (Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Maritime Industry)
  • Shipyard Competent Person Certification from Certified Marine Chemist
  • HAZWOPER Certification
  • DOT Hazard Certification
  • First Aid, CPR & AED Certifications

Physical Demands:

While performing these job duties, the employee is routinely required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; use fingers and hands to type or write; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

This position is performed in a traditional shipyard and manufacturing environment with local travel required between facilities.
