Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supervising team(s) and their supervisors within the Production Control department.
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure the flow and process of production management across several facilities.
  • Identify and define internal and external customer requirements and ensure they are communicated consistently across all teams.
  • Oversee the monitoring and documentation of material, transportation, subcontract, and labor requirements at the departmental level.
  • Provide regular updates and comprehensive reports to production and program management.
  • Directly oversees the day-to-day project and operational aspects. Ensure required production material is staged, identified, and available for use when and where needed.
  • Delegate or perform receipt inspections on production materials on arrival.
  • Identify, minimize, and remain cognizant of risks to safety, quality, schedule, and budget (in that order), and implement mitigation strategies across teams.
  • Organize and co-lead production control team meetings, set agendas, and capture lessons learned for departmental process improvement.
  • Plans, prepares, and issues all drawings in accordance with Manufacturing Orders for production ensuring accuracy across team(s).
  • Coordinates with Production Control material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials timed to meet production requirements.
  • Advise senior management of the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems, ensuring personnel, equipment, materials, and services are provided as needed.
  • Confirms material supply and demands, prepares work orders or purchase requests for the production or purchase of components or parts based on shop load and inventory requirements.
  • Coordinates interdepartmental activity with quality assurance, manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, inventory control, traffic, etc.; schedule and expedite the movement of parts across facilities.

  • Demonstrate professional, morally, and ethically sound behavior consistent with company policies and in keeping with a position requiring access to and the development of sensitive technical data.
  • Develop rapport and professional working relationships with both internal and external customers as well as with vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, and other internal and external team members
  • Manages performance and development plans for production control teams within their organizational reporting structure
  • Conduct interviews and assess candidates using competency-based evaluation methods
  • Make timely and informed hiring decisions to support staffing and operational requirements
  • Ensure recruitment decisions align with organizational policies and best practices

Qualifications:

  • Experience with naval ship new construction, repair, and
  • The ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and military and commercial
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe
  • The ability to learn and understand company accounting software and related enterprise
  • Strong math as well as verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Experience leading and communicating with teams both internally and across departmental boundaries within the division to ensure the success of the department.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 10 years of related experience.
  • M/AS plus 6 years of related experience.
  • BA/BS plus 4 years of related experience.
  • Experience with Newport News Shipbuilding, Electric Boat, and/or other new construction shipbuilding facilities is preferred.
  • U.S. Citizen with the ability to pass and hold various background checks and security clearances.

Physical Demands:

While performing these job duties, employees are routinely required to stand, walk, lift (<5O lbs.), climb, crawl, sit, and to work at height. To use their hands and fingers to reach, handle, and feel objects, tools, or controls and to type or write. Employees are also required to be able to see, talk, hear, and smell. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

This position is performed in both traditional shop and office environments, with frequent local travel between facilities and project locations. Occasional travel outside of the local area may be required in the development of technical requirements, vendors, suppliers, and other team members.
