Kyle of Lochalsh, Scotland, UK, 16 October 2016 – Fairlead announced today that its Precision Manufacturing & Integration (FPMI) division debuted its LARS during Unmanned Warrior as part of a team led by Northrop Grumman to demonstrate its remote mine hunting capability. The LARS stows, launches, and retrieves Northrop Grumman’s AQS-24B mine hunting sonar installed in an Atlas Elektronik UK ARCIMS Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV).
Gary Dove, FPMI’s General Manager, witnessed the demonstration of Northrop Grumman’s mine hunting system from the remote operating center (ROC) in Scotland and stated “the mine hunting capabilities of this system are impressive particularly since the operations are completely remote controlled. The Fairlead LARS is a perfect example of our capabilities to fabricate and integrate complex electromechanical systems and we are very proud to be part of this team and our role in this mission critical program.”
