Summary:

The Materials Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the efficient receipt, storage, and dispatch of a wide range of goods, including maintaining accurate inventory records and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. This role involves supervising materials handling personnel, coordinating with various departments, and implementing process improvements to optimize material flow within the maritime operations of Fairlead.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of materials handling personnel, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and scheduling.
  • Foster a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement among team members.
  • Oversee the receipt, storage, and distribution of materials, ensuring accurate inventory levels are maintained.
  • Implement and monitor inventory control systems to manage stock levels, track orders, and minimize discrepancies.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for material handling and storage.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reductions within the materials management function.
  • Collaborate with procurement, production, and logistics departments to ensure timely availability of materials for maritime operations.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to address material needs and resolve any issues promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards related to material handling and storage.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions for materials handling personnel.
  • Maintain accurate records of material transactions, inventory levels, and personnel activities.
  • Prepare regular reports on material management performance metrics for management review.

Qualifications:

Required –

  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in materials management, logistics, or a related field within the maritime industry.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory management principles, warehouse operations, and material handling equipment.
  • Proficiency in using inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and implement effective solutions to improve material flow and reduce costs.

Preferred –

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with maritime industry regulations and standards related to materials management.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and shifts, as required.
  • Reliable transportation and strong attendance record.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant work environment.

Physical Demands:

While performing these job duties, employees are routinely required to stand, walk, lift, climb, crawl, and sit. To use their hands and fingers to reach, handle, and feel objects, tools, or controls and to type or write. Employees are also required to be able to see, talk, hear, and smell. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various weather conditions.

Work Environment:

This position is performed in a traditional shipyard environment with frequent local travel between facilities and project locations as required. Expect to spend portions of each day in the yard and/or at various locations. Occasional travel outside of the local area may be required in support of customers, vendors, suppliers, and other team members.
