Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the receipt, storage, kitting, and distribution of production material
  • Ensure time keeping accuracy, departmental safety, and efficiency are all maintained
  • Work with supervisor, vendors, suppliers, and internal and external customers to ensure the on‐time availability of production material across several facilities
  • Coordinate with production control, planning, purchasing, programs, and quality personnel on project specific material and receipt inspection requirements where applicable
  • Monitor the purchase, receipt, and acceptance of vendor, customer, and government furnished material(s)
  • Work with department supervisor to provide weekly material availability reports for all WIP, to generate weekly and daily plans of action and milestones, and to effectively communicate with management, staff, vendors, and other internal and external team members
  • Assist with the development and continuous improvement of departmental policies and procedures
  • Periodically audit material inventory and ensure compliance with current policies and procedures
  • Other tasks/duties as directed

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must demonstrate professional, morally, and ethically sound behavior not only consistent with company policies but also in keeping with a position requiring access to and the development of sensitive technical and financial data
  • Develop rapport and professional working relationship with both internal and external customers as well as vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, and other internal and external team members

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to form strong relationships and communication channels across the organization. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely to supervision, customers, and staff
  • Proficient in the use of ERP/MRP systems, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat
  • Must be able to motivate supporting team members proficiently and effectively

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 3 years directly related logistics or materials experience
  • Technical, trade, and Naval ship new construction experience preferred
  • Prior forklift experience preferred
  • Experience with Newport News Shipbuilding, Electric Boat, and/or other shipbuilding facilities preferred
  • U.S. Citizen with the ability to pass and hold various background checks and security clearances

Primary work locations: 201 Wavy Street, Portsmouth, VA and 3132 Victory Blvd, Portsmouth, VA.
