Boat Shop Technician

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of boats and an operational knowledge of propulsion and electrical systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair vessels per the specifications within the work package
  • Perform various maintenance duties involved with the repair of small boats
  • Ability to read drawings and effectively work to NAVSEA standards
  • Continuously learn and apply lessons learned to other projects
  • Research parts to comply with commercial and government equipment specifications
  • Familiarity with multiple different driveline configurations and components (inboard/ outboard, sterndrives, jet drives, full outboard)
  • Knowledge of multiple different 12v and 24v electrical systems (engine monitoring systems, navigation, radar, communication systems, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to work multiple ongoing projects on and off-site
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain quality work throughout projects

 

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in the use of various hand tools as necessary to achieve finish requirements
  • Ability to effectively use power driven equipment
  • Close attention and care are required to prevent damage to complex machine tools
  • High mental and visual effort required

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of formal apprenticeship program or completion of in-company, four-year training program

 

Physical Demands:

  • While performing these job duties, the employee is routinely required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; use fingers and hands to type or write; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

 

Work Environment:

  • This position is performed in a marine environment, with some local travel between facilities.
