Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Experience painting aluminum and fiberglass vessels.
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of preparing vessels for fiberglass repairs or paint including sanding, cleaning, and taping up.
  • Complete necessary fiberglass repairs including grinding and layup of simple laminations.
  • Conduct gel coat/paint cosmetic repairs and full paint jobs.
  • Assess condition of gel coat, paint, and/or fiberglass with supervisor and project managers.
  • Have knowledge of various fiberglass cloths, their applications, and applicability to what is being worked on.
  • Maintain finishes to industry and manufacturer recommended standards.
  • Be present for government checkpoints and address any issues.
  • Capable of blasting metal parts.
  • Have a good understanding of how to use various paint and blast equipment including an HVLP spray gun and pressure pot.
  • Understand the proper operation of hand and hand-held air/electric tools and apply to work completed.
  • Ability to recognize and protect boat components while performing finishing duties.
  • Be familiar with measuring and mixing paint.
  • Provide estimated hours and materials needed for a project.
  • Ability to work to estimated hours and provide insight into problems that may arise.
  • Fill out paint usage paperwork and track environmental information.
  • Know how to use a WFT and DFT gauge.
  • Maintain standards, policies, practices, and procedures in order to deliver projects with efficiency to meet contractual requirements.
  • Ensure quality work is performed.
  • Understand how and when to use various chemicals.
  • Keep a clean and well-maintained paint booth.
  • Ability to be a self-starter and work independently or with others.
  • Possess strong organizational skills and able to prioritize work.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete other tasks assigned by Shop Manager including assisting on the assembly floor as needed or work allows.

Qualifications:

  • Five plus years of marine painting experience.
  • Basic trade knowledge, such as the use of job-related tools and equipment.
  • Strong work ethic (flexible, reliable, and punctual).
  • Must be able to complete assigned work in an efficient and timely manner.
  • High mental and visual effort required.
  • Capability of reading and understanding work specifications and associated drawings and references.
  • Awlgrip paint and Petit paint experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of LAR GEN-1504 Alternative Paint Option for Navy Boats a plus.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • While performing these job duties, the employee is routinely required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; use fingers and hands to type or write; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

This position is performed in a marine environment, with some local travel between facilities.
