Associate Mechanical Engineer – REQ 14316

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop drawings, sketches and 3D models using CAD 2D/3D software under the supervision of senior mechanical engineer
  • Provide timely manufacturing engineering support to resolve issues requiring technical guidance
  • Review and provide technical support for the development of work specifications, technical documentation and specifications
  • Attend meetings and conferences on engineering and continuous improvement matters
  • Serve as the prime point of contact for various customer technical questions

Qualifications:

  • Must have a basic understanding of the use of 3D and 2D CAD software. Primary software used includes SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Must have a basic understanding of metalwork manufacturing processes (forming, welding, milling, etc.)
  • Must have a basic understanding of mechanical assembly and ways to mitigate issues caused by environmental stresses (shock, vibration, temperature, etc.)
  • Must be able to work and communicate effectively with other team members, company employees, and customers

Minimum Requirements:

  • AS/AA or BA/BS in Engineering, Computer Science, Science or a related academic field or 5 yrs directly related experience.

  • While performing these job duties, the employee is routinely required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; use fingers and hands to type or write; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to carry 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

  • This position is performed in a traditional office, industrial and shipboard environment, with some travel between facilities and customer locations. Travel can be local, domestic and international.

Primary work location: 750 Chautauqua Ave, Portsmouth, VA.
