Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow established safety policies and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
  • Possess the ability to read and interpret plans, drawings, blueprints, and specifications (technical data) in a variety of provided hardcopy and electronic formats.
  • Perform structural accuracy control inspections in accordance with applicable and established tolerances, procedures, policies, and standards.
  • Establish center lines, water and base lines, frame lines, degree lines, and other reference points which can be used by trades in locating, positioning, and installing hull plates, machinery, and fittings.
  • Requires a working knowledge of trade equipment including theodolites, surveyor’s levels, gunner’s quadrant, laser beam equipment, and alidades.
  • Direct and/or perform adjustments on multiple levels of module construction throughout the build
  • Utilize company software along with Microsoft Office products and Adobe Acrobat to create, prepare, and sign‐off reports, surveys and other records.
  • Provide oversight of and assistance to production personnel when and where required.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform other routine duties as directed by supervision.
  • Develop rapport and professional working relationships with both internal and external customers as well as vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, and other internal and external team members.

Qualifications:

  • Intermediate to advanced marine fabrication and metals working
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to form strong communication channels across the Must be able to communicate clearly, concisely, and persuasively to customers and staff.
  • Prior experience performing structural installation and inspection preferred.
  • Prior experience with Newport News Shipbuilding or other new construction facilities preferred.

Minimum Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Min 3 years’ experience with naval ship new construction (structural) required.
• U.S. Citizen with the ability to pass and hold various background checks and/or security clearances.

Physical Demands:
• While performing these job duties, employees are routinely required to stand, walk, lift (<50 lbs.), climb, crawl, sit, and to work at height. To use their hands and fingers to reach, handle, and feel objects, tools, or controls and to type or write. Employees are also required to be able to see, talk, hear, and smell. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

This position is performed both in a shop and a traditional office environment, with local travel between facilities and project locations. Occasional travel outside of the local area may be required in the development of technical requirements, vendors, suppliers, and/or other team members.
