The docking / rigging laborer is responsible for assisting with the preparation, securing, and handling of vessels during docking and undocking operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with Docking Operations: Help guide vessels into docks by managing ropes, lines, and other rigging equipment under supervision.
  • Setting Up Mooring Lines: Assist in preparing and securing mooring lines to hold vessels in place once docked, ensuring safety and stability.
  • Support Rigging Tasks: Set up and maintain rigging, including cables, pulleys, chains, and slings used to hoist and move parts or vessels safely.
  • Load and Equipment Handling: Help with the safe movement of heavy equipment and materials, ensuring proper rigging techniques are followed.
  • Inspection and Maintenance of Equipment: Regularly check rigging and docking equipment for signs of wear or damage and report issues for maintenance.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and wear protective gear, ensuring that all tasks comply with industry regulations.
  • Communication: Work closely with the team, including crane operators, supervisors, and ship crews, using hand signals or radios to facilitate safe operations.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Familiarity with ropes, chains, slings, and knots
  • Effective communication with supervisors and other team members is critical for safe and efficient operations.
  • Ability to adjust to changing conditions in real time.
  • US Citizenship

Physical Demands:

While performing these job duties, the employee is routinely required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; use fingers and hands to type or write; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

This position is performed in a marine environment, with some local travel between facilities.
