Each year the Propeller Club of the US Port of Norfolk celebrates National Maritime Day. On May 22, 2020, a celebration of the 97th anniversary of National Maritime Day took place virtually. Numerous dignitaries, including Elaine Chao, US Secretary of Transportation; RADM Mark Buzby (Ret.), US Maritime Administrator, Members of Congress, and Industry Leaders (including Fairlead owner Mr. Jerry Miller), all came together for the virtual celebration to honor seafarers and those who work in shipyards and on the waterfront.
The event concluded with a Wreath Laying Ceremony on the river from a boat provided by The Virginian Pilot Association, along with a water cannon salute from Moran and McAllister Towing tugs, to honor and celebrate our maritime heroes.
