Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Analyze customer specifications for key design requirements and serves as an approval authority for design compliance for peer designs.
• Analyze the applicability of various Military Specifications/Standards for new technology designs and serves as an approval authority for design compliance for peer designs.
• Perform stress (FEA), heat (CFD) shock, vibration, and other analyses using software and hand calculations to provide design confidence for real-world performance requirements.
• Develop drawings, sketches and 3D models using 2D/3D CAD software independently.
• Serve as the review and approval authority for drawings and technical documentation for peers.
• Provide timely manufacturing engineering support to resolve complex issues requiring technical guidance independently.
• Create supplemental work instructions, and technical documentation to support engineering deliverables to internal and external customers.
• Attend meetings and conferences on engineering and continuous improvement matters and makes decisions on behalf of engineering department leadership.
• Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines to solve complex engineering design challenges.
• Assist with on-site and off-site testing to support the qualification of equipment for use onboard Navy ships (Shock, Vibration, Electromagnetic Interference, and other Environmental tests) independently or provides guidance to on-site support team.
• Creates definition of on-site qualification confidence testing methods and evaluation criteria.
• Apply design and manufacturing best practices to designs independently and in support of the design team, including definition of critical to quality attributes for designs.
• Serve as the lead engineer for design projects, collaborating with Program Management to ensure timely completion of project deliverables.
• Serve as the engineering representative for customer meetings, and formal design reviews.
• Provide mentorship and development for the junior engineering staff.

Education & Experience Requirements:
• The following degrees in Engineering, Computer Science, Science or closely related academic field:
• (MS)& 3-7 Years Relevant Experience
OR• (BS)& 6-10 Years Relevant Experience
OR • (AS)& 9-13 Years Relevant Experience
OR• Relevant Industry Experience of 11-15 Years

Physical Demands:
While performing these job duties, the employee is routinely required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; use fingers and hands to type or write; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Basic Qualifications:
• Thorough knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practical application.
• Must have be highly proficient in the use of 3D and 2D CAD software.
• Thorough understanding of metalwork manufacturing processes (forming, welding, milling, etc.)
• Working knowledge of engineering analyses
• Thorough knowledge of material properties and selection (Steel, Aluminum, Stainless, Composites, etc).
• Thorough understanding of mechanical assembly (Tools, operations)
• Must be able to work and communicate effectively with other team members, other departments, and leadership.
• Strong organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities
• Willingness to learn and accept and provide mentoring.
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office products
• Ability to communicate work progress against a given budget and/or due date.
• Provide budgets and completion dates for the team as the lead engineer.
• Highly Experienced with MIL qualification testing (Shock, Vibration, Environmental)
• Highly proficient in technical writing

Exceptional Qualifications/Experiences:
• Highly proficient in Solidworks 3D CAD Software
• Proficient in AutoCAD Software

Work Environment:
• This position is performed in a manufacturing environment, with some local travel between facilities.
