Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Selects, installs, and uses cable, ropes, shackles, beam clamps, spreaders, strong backs, and other weight handling gear to lift, move and position heavy loads
• Fabrication, installation, and repair of standing and running riggings and wire cable or fiber rope articles such as slings, towing bridles, wire rope nets, and other ship and boat rigging and weight handling gear
• Direct the operation of cranes and similar equipment and plan for clearance and safety factors
• Assist in ship docking operations by laying out and handling docking lines and tackles, subbing lines on cleats or bollards, hauling in lines by operating capstans, and performing similar duties
• Ascend, traverse, and negotiate man-lifts, gangways, equipment and staging at varying heights (80’)
• Perform pre-use inspection of staging, equipment, rigging, and lift points
• Abide by all safety rules, company, and yard practices.

• Demonstrate professional, moral, and ethical behavior consistent with company policies
• Perform all other duties required by assigned supervisor
Qualifications:
• Able to gain access to government facilities as required
• Prior forklift operator’s license
• NCCCO rigging certification preferred
• Must be reliable and maintain consistent work attendance
Minimum Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Competition of formal apprenticeship program or completion of in-company, two-year training program
• 3 years’ experience in a ship building and/or repair environment
Physical Demands:
• While performing these job duties, the employee is routinely required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; use fingers and hands to type or write; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
• This position is performed in a traditional new construction, fabrication, and ship repair environment with local travel between facilities as required.
• Occasional travel outside of the local area may be required in the development of training, technical requirements, vendors, suppliers, and other team members.
