Manufacturing Engineer

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain work instructions for various production processes and methods
  • Bridge technical gap between 3D model-based design and production requirements
  • Ensure the company’s manufacturing processes are in compliance with government and customer specifications
  • Work with Engineering department to refine product design, to increase manufacturability, and decrease costs
  • Ensure that equipment manufacturer’s procedures and instructions are followed in order to keep production equipment operational
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to disposition non-conformance reports, and recommend changes to designs, provide tolerance clarification, and improve or clarify processing methods
  • Submit request forms to red-line drawings or models in order to improve manufacturability and improve product processing times
  • Red-line drawings in support of current production
  • Review request forms to ensure they are necessary prior to submission to planning, engineering, and/or programs
  • Assist in writing engineering change and waiver requests to Fairlead customers with design authority
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to correct repeat process and non-conformance failures
  • Assist in improving the manufacturing planning process
  • Participate in manufacture order router reviews
  • Assist in identify parts that require subcontract processing and recommend qualified subcontractors
  • Participate in subcontract source inspections and subcontractor audits
  • Assist in the installation and troubleshooting of basic manufacturing equipment
  • Assist in the development of flat patterns and CNC programming

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS degree in manufacturing engineering, systems engineering, industrial engineering, or mechanical engineering preferred but not required
  • Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) 2D/3D trained
  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering or related position
  • 5+ years of experience in electro-mechanical manufacturing
  • Experience in metrology a plus

Primary work location: 650 and 750 Chautauqua Avenue, Portsmouth, VA.
