Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare all types of surfaces for preservation.
Select proper media to obtain desired surface preparation requirements.
Operate various style blasting units.
Proper use and selection of various types of hand and power tools for surface preparation.
Complete tasks with little or no supervision.
Follow and act on instructions/tasks given.
Work independently to accomplish tasks.
Work with others, as a team, to accomplish tasks.
Control costs in their assigned area of responsibility.
Work in various environments, including but not limited to confined spaces, elevated staging, & manlifts.
Perform other duties as directed.
Necessary Skills and Experience:
Knowledge of the various SSPC surface preparation standards.
Knowledge of OSHA Shipyard industry standards.
Advanced knowledge of the selection and uses of various types and sizes of media.
Advanced knowledge of the set‐up, operation, & troubleshooting of the various preservation tools and equipment.
Advanced safety knowledge to include proper PPE selection, the safe handling, use, disposal, and storage of media,
confined space entry, Lock‐out/Tag‐out procedures.
Advanced knowledge of NAVSEA preservation requirements.
Knowledge of various inspection/checkpoint requirements.
Knowledge of manufacturer’s product data sheets and SDS.
Knowledge of DEQ & EPA requirements.
Knowledge of work specifications.
Minimum Requirements:
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the marine preservation industry.
Possess a valid C7 certification.
Reliable transportation and attendance.
Local travel as needed.

Physical Demands:
While performing these job duties, employees are routinely required to stand, walk, crawl, sit, kneel, lift, and carry (up to
50 lbs.). To use their arms, hands, and fingers to reach, feel, and type or write. To use their ears, nose, and mouth to talk,
hear and smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
This position is performed both in a shop and a traditional shipyard environment, with local travel between facilities and
project locations as needed.
