Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs typing, transcription, and administrative duties as required
- Maintains physical records of transactions
- Reviews and verifies transaction event information
- Performs data entry into CostPoint and related financial systems
- Monitors accounts for accuracy
- Prepares subledger journal entries for AP, AR, Inventory, and Cash
- Prepares system and manual accruals
- Prepares manual General Ledger Journal entries (Reclassifying, Adjusting)
- Reviews journal entries for approval and posts to subledger or general ledger
- Reviews and approves reports and account reconciliations
- Performs monthly close analytics and reporting
- Performs variance analysis on high-risk accounts
- Reviews and approves state and federal payroll tax filings
- Reviews and approves workers comp and other insurance audit responses
- Reviews and approves personal property tax returns for local governments
- Reviews and approves State sales and use tax returns
- Prepares and reviews Treasury transactions
- Learns and follows internal controls, policies, and procedures applicable to role
- Develops broad understanding of internal control and business system process interdependency
- Interacts with other process teams to resolve problems
- Evaluates exceptions, documents variations, recommends improvements to internal controls, policies, and procedures
- Supports internal and external financial audits; primary point of contact for a process functional area for internal and external audits
- Supports short term liquidity analysis with short term cash flow forecasts for assigned legal entities
- Access and authority to prepare electronic bank transactions
- Manages Supervisors and individual team members
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Contributes to the end results of the company through organizing, planning and managing accounting operations
- Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree – Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics
- Master’s degree – Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics
- Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant – preferred
- Certified VBLSS Green Belt – preferred
- Detail oriented
- Advanced Excel skills – able to develop complex excel models using connected data sources for ad hoc analysis or repetitive use by others
- Development of SQL queries and other data calls as model inputs
- Decomposing dependent data requirements for sequential data conditioning
- Creation of simple interfaces for user inputs and structured outputs for reports and interfaces
- Able to work in a team environment
- Able to analyze problems and rectify discrepancies

Minimum Requirements:
- 4-8 years of progressive experience in accounting and senior accounting roles
- 3+ years direct supervisory experience
This position is performed in a traditional office environment, with local travel between facilities. Primary work location is 500 Crawford Street, Portsmouth, VA.
